Calabasas, California

Welcome to the Calabasas website for the Law Offices of Ben Yeroushalmi. As specialists in Los Angeles nursing home litigation, we created this website to increase awareness of the dangers of neglect in skilled nursing home facilities and to provide you with options if you or a loved one has been subject to elder abuse.

Hidden in the hills of the San Fernando Valley and the Santa Monica Mountains, the city of Calabasas was formally incorporated into Los Angeles in 1991. The name comes from the Spanish word calabaza, which means “pumpkin” or “squash.” Appropriately, there is an annual Pumpkin Festival each October, with carnival games, exhibits, demonstrations, and live entertainment. Today, the city is known to be an affluent city, where many celebrities, including Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and the Kardashians reside. According to the 2010 census, the city population is 23,058. Beyond its reputation for being the home of many celebrities, the city is also rich in history. In Old Town Calabasas remains the Leonis Adobe, an adobe structure that dates back to 1844 and is one of the oldest buildings in Los Angeles. Despite it clearly being a wonderful place to live, Calabasas has no skilled nursing facilities. However, you can search this website to find one conveniently located to you.

Residents of nursing homes are often bed ridden, either because of a debilitating disease or injury which renders them immobile, or because they are recovering from a major surgery. Pressure sores are an unfortunate but usually preventable side effect of being in bed for a long time. Pressure Sores or “Pressure Ulcers” have four stages, labeled Stage I through Stage IV, with Stage IV the worst end of the spectrum. A Stage IV pressure sore is when the ulcer has become so deep that it causes damage to the muscle, bone, joints and tendons. Requirements for prevention include close monitoring, repositioning, application of dressing, or provision of special bedding, to either avoid Pressure Sores in susceptible residents or to prevent an existing pressure sore from getting worse. When these injuries (commonly referred to as Decubitus Ulcers, Pressure Sores or Pressure Ulcers) do occur, one of the causes may be understaffing. Section 483.30 of Title 42 of the Code of Federal Regulations declares that nursing homes are required to have enough nursing staff to see to the physical needs of each and every resident, even if that means a one-to-one patient-to-staff ratio.

If your loved one has suffered a Pressure Sore while residing at a Skilled Nursing Facility, and you believe this is the result of Nursing Home Neglect, please Contact Us immediately. We will do a comprehensive assessment, in consultation with our experts, to determine the cause of the Pressure Sore and advise you on your legal rights and options. We will advocate on your behalf, saving you the frustration and stress of handling the problem alone.

Ben was wonderful. He took our case when no one else was interested or wanted way to much money. We would highly recommend Ben because he really listens and takes your situation into consideration. We settled our case and we were only unhappy with one thing and that was the confidentiality clause but that was not Ben's fault it came with the deal. June
